Service

What we can do with a keg

Nine services that can almost always be combined: complete overhaul, spear, conversion, polyurethane repair, marking, rebranding and storage. What makes sense for a particular stock is decided by the inspection – not by the catalogue.

A keg has more conditions than “good” and “broken”

Most enquiries that reach us begin with a sentence like “we still have three hundred kegs standing around”. What makes sense after that depends on the condition, on the age, on the keg type – and on whether the kegs belong to you at all.

That is why the nine services below are not packages you pick one from. They are building blocks. A typical order combines two or three of them, and which ones we tell you after the inspection.

Reconditioning

Keg complete overhaul

Straightening the geometry, aligning the neck, removing beerstone, re-marking, testing for leaks. On request also reduction from 50 to 30 or 20 litres.

Reconditioning

Spear complete overhaul

Dismantling, cleaning in the ultrasonic bath, replacing wear parts, measuring spring pressure, spear with calibrated torque.

A PU-clad keg with a torn jacket: the crack runs from the handle across both rolling rings down to the base, with the undamaged stainless steel showing through.

Reconditioning

Polyurethane keg complete overhaul

Refilling the jacket by casting, renewing handles and rings. For kegs where the plastic is damaged and the stainless steel is not.

Conversion

Spear change and system change

From flat (A-type) to EU Sankey (S-type), from three-lug (G-type) to flat (A-type). As a rule a parts swap with no work on the keg itself – and far cheaper than feared.

Conversion

Neck conversion to a standard thread

For kegs from the British or American market with a threadless neck. Afterwards every spear family fits.

View →

Modification

Capacity change

Change the capacity instead of building a second fleet – from 50 to 30 litres, for example, within the same keg type.

View →

Stock

Keg marking

Engraving, embossing, plate, colour ring or RFID transponder. So that a keg stays countable and finds its way back.

View →

Stock

Rebranding

A new logo on existing kegs instead of buying new ones. Only where ownership has been established.

View →

Logistics

Storage

Up to 500,000 kegs, secured and documented, with transport in both directions. Seasonal or permanent.

What almost always belongs together

A

Complete overhaul plus rebranding

Surface preparation is the most laborious part of a rebranding – and during reconditioning it happens anyway. If you are planning a change of company name, combine it with the next reconditioning cycle and pay a fraction.

B

Complete overhaul plus spear

Keg body and spear age in completely different ways. An overhauled keg with a tired spear dispenses badly and cannot be cleaned properly. Conversely, a new spear does little for a distorted keg.

C

Storage plus reconditioning

A keg that is standing idle over the winter anyway can go through the workshop in that time. The transport then happens once instead of twice.

D

Marking plus everything else

Applying a permanent marking while a keg is being worked on anyway costs almost nothing. Applying it afterwards means a second pass.

How an order runs

01

You describe the stock

Keg type, capacity, approximate quantity and a few photos. That is enough for a first assessment and for us to tell you what is worth doing and what is not.

02

We inspect

For smaller lots from photos, for larger ones on site. This also establishes whether the stock contains kegs carrying another company’s marking – those take a route of their own.

03

Quotation with allocation

You get a list of which kegs take which route: reconditioning, spear, rebranding, storage or recycling. With a price per item, not a flat rate.

04

Pickup and processing

We collect. During processing every keg is allocated to your stock and is not mixed with others.

05

Return delivery or storage

Back to you, anywhere in Europe, or straight into storage if you do not need the space right now.

Before you call

Three things that make an enquiry considerably faster:

  • Look at the top chime. The keg type and the capacity are usually written there. DIN and EURO differ in diameter – 363 against 395 millimetres.
  • Look into the neck. Which spear type is installed decides a good part of the cost. The technical article on the spear types helps you identify it.
  • Sort out kegs that are not yours. Kegs carrying another brewery’s marking, still legible, are a case of their own. We take them, but they take a different path.

Tell us about your stock

A few photos and a quantity are enough to start with. We tell you honestly what is worth doing – even when the answer is that nothing is.
