The finding is a triage, not a forecast
The tool does not tell you how many cycles a keg has left. Nobody can: there is no cycle counter on the keg, and age is a poor guide. What kills a keg are events – a fall, a frost, an overpressure – not wear on the container.
What the tool does deliver is a classification into three classes based on the findings that the industry association describes as retirement and quarantine criteria. A "refurbishment case" means: nothing speaks against it. It does not mean: guaranteed sound.
The spear clock
Spear and down tube should be completely overhauled after seven to eight years, earlier with rough handling. In parallel, one manufacturer ties its 30-year warranty on weld seam tightness and corrosion protection to maintenance every seven years. Both intervals run practically the same – the tool calculates with seven years from the last overhaul, or failing that from the vintage.
The value range
The scrap value is the empty weight times the scrap price entered – the default is 1.10 € per kilogram for V2A stainless steel according to a German scrap price overview, as at March 2026. The weights come from manufacturer data sheets.
The market value is the weakest figure in this calculation. The default is a round placeholder, not a quotation – we do not publish our own list price on this website. Enter the figure you would actually pay or achieve, otherwise the tool calculates with the wrong order of magnitude.
What is not taken into account
Beerstone and deposits, surface condition, uniformity of the stock, quantity, location and loading situation. All of these affect the price – none of them can seriously be cast into a formula. The checklist at the end does not replace that, but it makes sure the details are right when you call.
