Where to measure the diameter
Across the widest point – that is the chimes at the top and bottom. 363 mm means DIN, 395 mm EURO. Anything below that is a slim shape; 235 and 237 mm are common, jacketed kegs measure 239 mm on the outside.
Which keg have you got standing there?
Not sure what sort of keg you have standing there? Then you are in the right place. A tape measure is all you need. Outside diameter and height give you the design, the capacity and the tare weight. And one look down at the neck tells you which spear is on it – that decides which coupler fits and which seal you need.

Where to measure the height
From the floor to the top edge, but without the stacking rim – the ring that stands proud at the top and carries the next keg. Height separates 20, 30 and 50 litres; at the same diameter it is the only external difference.
How to recognise the spear
Look down at the neck. A flat round body above the thread (Ø 74.5 mm) is a flat (A-type) or combi spear (M-type). Three lugs on the flange (Ø 70 mm) mean a triangular spear (G-type). If the valve sits inside the neck with no body above it, it is a US Sankey (D-type) or EU Sankey spear (S-type).
If no figure matches exactly
Heights and weights differ by a few millimetres and a few hundred grams depending on the manufacturer. Take the nearest value. And if you are still unsure: photograph the neck from above and attach the picture to your enquiry – then we will tell you what you have.
The dimensions come from manufacturer data sheets. Please check the result against the keg.
