US Sankey spear (D-type), type D
The North American standard, in Europe mainly on export containers. The only type for which complete test dimensions are publicly documented.
The design with the best data
For the D system, dimensions and test procedures are published in the guidance of the American brewers association – the only one of the five systems for which this is the case. Documented are, among others, the outside diameter of the neck at the flange of 2.499 inches ± 0.004, the maximum valve outside diameter of 1.976 inches ± 0.004 and the valve travels: 8 mm at the beer valve, at most about 6 mm at the CO₂ valve.
These values are useful well beyond the D system, because they show the order of magnitude of valve travels. They cannot, however, be transferred. Anyone needing figures for flat (A-type) or EU Sankey spears (S-type) has to ask the manufacturer or measure them – and should then mark them as their own measurement.
If you ship to the USA
For import into the United States a permanent, indelible country-of-origin marking on the keg is mandatory. That is not a recommendation but a condition of entry.
Spare parts for type D
We supply seals, springs, retaining rings and valves from our EU warehouse. Retaining rings for the threadless systems always come new – they are single-use parts, not wear parts. To the spare parts overview
Length not right?
We cut spears to length. Tell us the height dimension H3 of the keg or, failing that, the design, capacity and manufacturer. Dispatch then goes out in two to three working days instead of the next day.
