Range

Five systems, one warehouse

The design at the keg neck decides which coupler fits. Here are the five that matter in Europe – each with its own page, dimensions and spare parts list.

The drawings are schematic top views for telling the systems apart, not scale representations. Dimensioned drawings are on the individual type pages.

Compatibility

Which brewery has which spear?

The question asked daily in this trade and answered properly nowhere. We are building the answer – brewery by brewery, with source and date of check.

Evidence status by the number of independent sources and whether they contradict each other.

What the review turned up

We evaluated beverage wholesalers, dispensing equipment rental firms and specialist shops in twelve countries. The picture is clear – and sobering.

  • Not a single brewery names its own spearNot in the hospitality section, not in the trade section. There are even breweries that sell a coupler of their own without stating the type.
  • The German lists all come from one sourceAn original list with around 600 breweries, undated. All the others are derivatives – with values that partly differ and are partly wrong.
  • The Dutch lists are translated from American onesDemonstrable from identical typing errors and from US brands that are not on sale there.
  • The container size has a say – and almost nobody carries itSeveral brands run 20 l on flat (A-type) and 50 l on EU Sankey (S-type). A list without a size axis is bound to give the wrong answer here.

That is why every line on our list states how well it is documented. Where sources contradict each other, we say so instead of picking one version.

Engineering

Figures nobody else publishes

Manufacturers explain the systems in words and leave out the dimensions. We do it the other way round.

74,5 mmBody diameter, type A and type M
70 mmFlange dimension, type G
2″ × 14Market-standard neck thread (TPI)
3 barWorking pressure of the spears

Other neck threads

Besides the standard we carry Rd 52, Rd 52.8 and Rd 53 × 1/6″ as well as 2 1/8″ × 7 TPI. Which thread your keg has, a look at the neck will tell you – or a photo sent to us.

Seals and spare parts

Square seals, O-rings, springs, valve discs and retaining rings – singly and as a set, assigned to type and year of manufacture. The retaining ring is used once only, without exception.

Standards

The connection dimensions of keg necks and keg connection parts are laid down in DIN 3542, the matching couplers in DIN 32677. The container standards DIN 6647-1 and -2, by contrast, cover pressure classes, not spear types.

Quality

Tested before it leaves the works

Every spear goes through a leak test. Production is certified to ISO 9001, the materials used are approved for food contact and meet FDA and CE requirements.

  • Stainless steel 1.4301Food-safe, corrosion-resistant, fit for decades in circulation.
  • Certificates as a PDF on requestWith a validity date, for your supplier file.
  • Cleaning-resistantDesigned for the usual caustic, acid and steam cycles of keg cleaning.

Logistics

From the EU warehouse, not from overseas

The difference between a spear from China and a spear from Miastko is not the data, it is eight weeks.

If you are unsure which spear fits: a photo of the keg neck is enough. We will tell you the type, the thread and the matching coupler – and what a set of seals costs.
